Whitsunday Advertising Sectors
As well as being known for the white pristine sandy beaches of the Whitsunday Islands, there is also an expansive hinterland region. Top employment sectors are driven by agriculture, mining, tourism, transport, construction and manufacturing. Tourism within the area is supported by the unique combination of water, island and reef activities that brings in more than 750,000 visitors annually. In 2019/20, $477.5m in tourism and hospitality sales was recorded across the Whitsundays.
This unique region provides brands with exposure to many domestic travellers (67% of tourists are from Australia), with Queensland visitor numbers growing annually. Despite the distance from major centres, 82% of intrastate visitors choose a car as their mode of transport to the region, taking in the breathtaking views and numerous billboards along the way!
The region is extremely popular with grey nomads and backpackers, families with children of all ages and couples alike. As a result, advertisers interested in expanding their local reach, whether across the tourism, agricultural or construction sectors or national brands interested in these audiences, should consider the region as part of their marketing mix.
